Why can't we just debate substantive issues in the U.S.?

According to the intellectual luminaries of the Democrat pantheon, the hate speech, finger-pointing, dishonest tirades, mocking, and all the other obfuion to prevent debate is absolutely NECESSARY for the advancement of the left's agenda.
