Im confident, fairly good looking, and have redeeming qualities but I can't get a girlfriend?

I'm a grown man and I've never had a girlfriend (feel free to be cynical... I expect it). But it's not that I have no self esteem (though I have struggled in this). Also, it's not that I'm dumb or talentless either. I personally think I have several redeeming qualities. I just can't get a date. I've tried but I fail. I either get avoided when I ask or I get halfway stoodup. I'm not sure I even know the best way of asking for a phone number or asking for a date. Plus, I (like many guys) am tired of getting answers that sound like wishful thinking. I need concrete, real tips/advice. Please, I can't help but think I'm missing something.
